State Police begin annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign

Indiana State Police (ISP) will be targeting drunk and impaired drivers starting this weekend. It’s part of the agency’s annual end-of-summer impaired driving enforcement campaign.

State troopers will join with officers across the state to increase patrols and sobriety checkpoints, according to a news release from ISP.

Indiana State Police reminds drivers to never drive impaired or let friends get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking.

Each year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issues grants to pay for the campaign.

In 2023, around 20% of all traffic fatalities in Indiana involved alcohol impairment, according to state police. Nearly a quarter of all traffic fatalities involved drug impairment.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign runs Aug. 16 through Sep. 2.
