BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) – The Indiana University Police Department is investigating two separate burglaries that reportedly occurred at Read Hall over winter break, according to IU Public Safety Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba.
Skibba said that on Jan. 7, officers met with four students at the dorm to file two burglary reports.
The first report said that two residents reported a pair of Air Jordan sneakers and a speaker stolen from inside their locked room. IUPD estimates the burglary took place sometime between Dec. 21 and Jan. 7, and the value of the stolen items was about $500.
The second report was from two additional residents who reported cash, a speaker, Nike sneakers, and sunglasses stolen from inside their locked room. IUPD estimates the burglary took place sometime between Dec. 21 and Jan. 6, and the value of the stolen items was about $1,500.
Skibba said that there were no signs of forced entry into either room, and that the cases remain under investigation.
There have been several burglaries reported to IUPD so far this academic year.
In September, three separate burglaries were reported at Eigenmann Residence Hall. The suspect broke into several locked rooms on floors 5, 6, and 10 and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, several debit cards, several driver’s licenses, Xbox controllers, and an Xbox console.
In November, two people were arrested and charged for allegedly entering the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house and stealing a laptop.
IUPD searched through surveillance footage at the house and used location tracking on the laptop, which helped officers identify and locate two suspects: Camryn Urbaniak and Luke Donsbach, both unaffiliated with IU.
Both men are set to go to trial on March 18.
