IU launches search committee for Bloomington campus chancellor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A search committee has been formed to help find the new executive vice president and chancellor for the IU Bloomington campus, IU President Pamela Whitten announced Tuesday.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees voted in June to approve re-establishing the position.

The comittee will be co-chaired by Danielle DeSawal, clinical professor of higher education and student affairs and president of the Bloomington Faculty Council, and David Daleke, professor of biochemistry & molecular biology, dean of the IU Bloomington Graduate School and vice provost for graduate education & health sciences.

A “diverse” group of students, faculty, and staff will also have a seat at the table. Isaacson, Miller, an executive search firm, has been hired to guide and assist the search committee.

The chancellor will report directly to Whitten by serving on the president’s cabinet and will oversee the Office of the Provost.

The chancellor will focus on increasing faculty participation in campus decision making, including diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, student life, and campus finances, according to Whitten’s email statement Friday.

All other IU regional campuses have their own respective chancellors, including IU Indianapolis.

“As the university’s flagship campus, Bloomington deserves this same level of resource and attention,” Whitten said in an email in June.

The chancellor would essentially run the Bloomington campus, which is the job of current Provost and Executive Vice President Rahul Shrivastav.

There is no indication of when a chancellor would be appointed.
