City to host public meeting on new Powerline Trail design

BLOOMINGTON — A new multi-use trail is one step closer to becoming a reality near Switchyard Park.

The trail will connect the Habitat for Humanity Osage Place neighborhood and RCA Community Park, and in the future, could connect to and through the Summit District development.

The City of Bloomington is asking for public feedback on initial design plans for the .9-mile trail, which will run west under power lines from the Switchyard Park entrance.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Pavilion at Switchyard Park. There will be an “open house-style” Q & A with representatives from AZTEC Engineering Group and Bloomington Parks & Recreation.

The window for feedback on the trail design and names will be open from Sept. 4 through Sept. 27.

The trail was proposed in 2018 and funds were approved by the Bloomington Common Council in Oct. 2018.

The Monroe County Commissioners approved the plans in May.

Construction on the trail could start as early as next year.
