Indiana Task Force One heads to Florida ahead of Hurricane Helene

Indiana Task Force Once, Indiana’s 80-person FEMA search and rescue team, is one of many disaster relief teams heading to Florida as the state braces for landfall of Hurricane Helene.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency Tuesday.

As of an 10 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center Wednesday, Hurricane Helene was off the Yucatan Peninsula and moving north northwest at 10 miles per hour and carrying winds of up to 80 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued storm surge and hurricane warnings for much of Florida as the National Hurricane Center predicts storm surge levels anywhere from six to 15 feet above ground level.

The current forecast cone predicts Helene to make landfall as a major hurricane sometime Thursday evening on the Florida peninsula.
