This week Anna and Cali discuss everything from a famous landmark getting a facelift to a famous comedian leaving his show after seven years. Welcome to this week’s Trending Topics:
COOLIO DIES AT 59
Last week an iconic rapper passed away at the age of 59. Coolio, best known for his hit “Gangsta's Paradise” died in Los Angeles last Wednesday.
L.A.P.D. says emergency responders were called to his location around four p.m. due to a medical emergency. L.A. fire department captain Erik Scott told CNN they found him unconscious and tried resuscitating him for around 45 minutes.
He didn't respond and was pronounced dead shortly after. According to the county coroner, his autopsy wasn't able to determine how he died. But investigations will continue.
Coolio was just set to headline his first vegas residency later this month.
TREVOR NOAH LEAVING THE DAILY SHOW
“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah is leaving the show after seven years. Executives at Comedy Central and Paramount were *quote* stunned when he made the announcement Thursday night.
Apparently, higher-ups all learned at the same time- when he announced it on the show.
I feel like it's time. I spent two years [of the pandemic] in my apartment, not on the road, and when I got back out there again, I realized that there's another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows, I miss being everywhere and doing everything.
Comedian Trevor Noah
The announcement came almost seven years to the day he took over for Jon Stewart. No announcement has been made yet for who is taking over for the comedian. Our picks are our Bloomington Brief hosts, Austin Rubin and Simon Mayer.
HOLLYWOOD SIGN GETS MAKEOVER
A Hollywood landmark is finally getting a makeover. The Hollywood Sign received a long-awaited glam sesh just in time for its 100th birthday next year.
So far it's been washed and removed of all rust by crews, and now it's getting a fresh paint job. Its paint usually lasts about a decade and was last touched up in 2012. The updates are expected to be completed by the middle of this month.
That is of course after about 400 gallons of primer and paint.
“BLONDE” MOVIE BACKLASH
Actress Emily Ratajkowski is joining the criticism about Netflix's new Marylin Monroe movie, “Blonde.”
Although she hasn't seen the movie yet, Emrata is calling out Netflix over the objectification and hurt of women.
She said in a TikTok video over the weekend that the obsession over Marilyn Monroe is comparable to the publicity around Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Princess Diana, and CSI episodes.

She said she is done exploiting her pain and hurt.
“I’m just going to get angry,” Ratajkowski said.
Ana de Armas, who plays Monroe, has not made a response to the criticism.
Last month, Planned Parenthood called out a scene in the movie over medically inaccurate descriptions of fetuses and pregnancy.
