BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) - A heat advisory is in effect for Monroe County until midnight ET Friday, July 28 due to the potential for heat indexes to break 105 degrees during the day on Friday.
Counties surrounding Bloomington are also under heat alerts. Areas to the south and west are under Excessive Heat Warnings for the potential for heat indexes to reach up to 110 degrees.
Highs during the day on Friday will be in the upper 90s. Dew point temperatures could reach the upper 70s, making conditions unbearable.
High dew points will make the air temperature feel well into the 100s. Bloomington has a forecasted heat index of 104 degrees at its highest point during the day.
It is important to take extra precautions to stay safe during the dangerous heat. Drink plenty of water and avoid spending time in the sun for prolonged periods of time.
Pets and children should never be left alone in a vehicle for any reason whatsoever.
Failure to take appropriate precautions could result in heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.
Luckily, the heat will ease up slightly during the weekend. Highs to start next week will be in the mid-80s. Highs will once again break 90 degrees towards the end of next week.
The forecast also looks to remain dry for the next seven days with very low rain chances.
