BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) - The IU chapter of Kappa Sigma was put on cease and desist on Aug. 15 for endangering others, alcohol, and hazing. All activities of the organization are suspended until further notice.
Kappa Sigma joins two other IU Greek organizations currently on cease and desist. Alpha Kappa Lambda was put on the list in April of this year for sexual harassment. In February, Zeta Beta Tau was put on the list for hazing.
Cease and desist is a disciplinary measure used by the university when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation. This may result in disciplinary probation, in which any violation of the conditions, or any further acts of misconduct, will result in additional disciplinary actions like suspension or expulsion from the university.
Kappa Sigma currently operates off-campus after the fraternity was forced to move out following a suspension. In Dec. 2018, the national headquarters suspended the IU chapter of the fraternity through July 2022 for hazing and alcohol violations.
