BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) - The IU Police Department (IUPD) says a victim reported a sexual assault that occured at Forest Quadrangle early Tuesday morning.
The assault reportedly occurred around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning and was reported to IUPD a short time later.
The victim told police she was talking to the suspect through the online anonymous messaging app, Wizz, and invited him to her dorm room at Forest Quad.
Police say the suspect then engaged in nonconsensual sexual acts with the victim. The IU Crime Notice described the suspect as a 19- to 20-year-old male, 5'10" tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds.
Anyone with information on this crime or any other crime is encouraged to call the IU Police Department at 812-855-4111.
This is the fifth reported sexual assault on campus this academic year. The start of school to Thanksgiving Break is known as the "Red Zone," or the time during the year when sexual assault reports are highest.
Sally Thomas, the Director for the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy at IU says she is monitoring the number of reports carefully.
"I haven't been hearing from students too often about expectations with reporting or anything like that. I think time will tell how well the numbers evened out like last year. Will they stay lower than last year? We just don't know."
