Man arrested after allegedly kidnapping girlfriend's five-year-old daughter and the child's babysitters

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) - A man is in jail and facing a long list of serious criminal charges after he reportedly abducted his girlfriend's five-year-old daughter and the couple that was watching the child.

According to court documents, Richard Allen White Jr. was in an ongoing dispute with his on-again off-again girlfriend over how much she was earning at her job at a Bloomington night club.

Police say that on Oct. 19, dispatched received a call from the night club about a possible abduction. The caller reported that an employee's ex-boyfriend had taken the employee's daughter and the child's babysitters.

In the probable cause affidavit, White Jr. reportedly called his girlfriend while she was at work in a fit of rage to ask her how much she had earned for the night.

The woman told White Jr. that she could not talk about it because she was "in the dressing room and around other dancers," but he would not stop harassing her. The woman then hung up the phone and went back to work.

Police say that White Jr. started to act "all crazy" and began calling the phone at the night club. Court documents say White Jr.'s girlfriend checked home security cameras placed in her daughters room and that the child was asleep, but after receiving a motion detected alert at the front door, her daughter was not in her bedroom.

White Jr. allegedly stole the phone from one of the two babysitters and used it to send threatening messages to his girlfriend.

"Man f*** u how I'm omw up there b**** don't be ready watch how I act a mf fool b****," is what one of the messages read.

Police say White Jr. also sent several audio messages to the woman which he was threatening to "hold everyone hostage in this b**ch."

Court documents say that White Jr. called the woman several times to which she texted him that her work would call police if she arrived. White Jr. reportedly responded with an audio message saying he was taking her daughter and texted "see what happens."

"I got your kid in the whip stupid call if u want to," police say White Jr. texted the woman.

Court documents say White. Jr. used a fake emergency to get the two babysitters and the 5 year old into his girlfriend's car with him. He reportedly then sent a video to her showing her child and the two babysitters in the backseat.

Police say a search by both the Bloomington Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff's Office began a search for White Jr. Court documents say that he was located by police after forty-five minutes and taken into custody. Police say the child or the two babysitters were found in the backseat and did not have any injuries.

White Jr. was arrested on the following charges:

  • Kidnapping where the victim is less than 14 years old, a Level 5 felony
  • Two counts of kidnapping with a vehicle, both Level 5 felonies
  • Three counts of intimidation where defendent draws or uses a deadly weapon, all Level 5 felonies
  • Intimidation: threat to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony
  • Theft when having a prior conviction for robbery or burglary, a Level 6 felony

He is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bond and is in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday.
