MONROE COUNTY, Ind. (IUSTV News) - A Unionville man was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly jumped into Lake Lemon to try to swim away from police.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the chase started around 4 a.m. Friday when officers were serving a warrant for 37-year-old Matthew Fischman, who was wanted for theft in Monroe County, and resisting law enforcement in Marion County.
When officers arrived to executre the warrant, Fischman was seen driving on Southshore Drive. Officers attempted to stop Fischman, but he reportedly refused.
Police say the chase continued into Brown County before re-entering Monroe County. Officers performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle while Fischman was making a turn, and as a result, he reportedly hit and damaged a police car.
As the chase continued onto Southshore Drive, police say Fischman made too wide of a turn and had to back up, hitting two more police cars. When his vehicle became stuck, Fischman jumped out the vehicle window and swam away in Lake Lemon.
