MUNCIE, Ind. (IUSTV News) - Indiana State Police arrested a man after he was disarmed and apprehended by a police K-9-unit in Muncie Sunday night.
Around 10:00pm , state police Sergeant Nick Albrecht initiated a traffic stop after noticing a Black Chevrolet Camero with an equipment violation. Upon attempting the stop, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 31-year-old Davion Cousins, reportedly sped away.
During the chase, Sgt. Albrecht radioed for assistance from other officers. State trooper Michael Thiron and his K-9, Yana, were able to assist with the chase. Cousins reportedly fled through various residential areas and yards, eventually getting stuck in soft ground.
Police say Cousins then fled on foot, prompting Officer Thrion to release Yana. During the foot chase, Cousins reportedly turned around and aimed a firearm at Yana. She then made contact with the firearm, knocking the suspect down and disarming him.
After being knocked down, police say Cousins attempted to get up and flee, but was quickly knocked down and held in place by Yana until he was taken into custody by responding officers.
Cousins was charged with resisting law enforcement causing injury, a level 5 felony, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, a level 6 felony, and several misdemeanors including possession of marijuana, and reckless driving.
