Select Indiana State Parks will close temporarily for controlled deer management hunts beginning Monday, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR says parks participating will close to the general public on the evening before each of the two hunts.

The first hunt is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13, and Tuesday, Nov. 14. The second hunt is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 27, and Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Only individuals selected from the draw may participate at any site.

DNR officials say deer management hunts help control deer populations to allow for sufficient habitat for native plants and other native animals.

The following state parks are participating in the hunt:

  • Chain O’Lakes
  • Clifty Falls
  • Fort Harrison
  • Harmonie
  • Indiana Dunes
  • Lincoln
  • O’Bannon Woods
  • Ouabache
  • Prophetstown
  • Shades
  • Shakamak
  • Spring Mill
  • Tippecanoe River
  • Turkey Run
  • Versailles
  • Whitewater Memorial
  • Raccoon State Recreation Area
  • Cave River Valley Natural Area, which is managed by Spring Mill State Park.
