MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (IUSTV News) - The Indiana State Police Peru Post is investigating after a Miami County Sheriff Deputy was seriously injured in a crash late Sunday afternoon.

ISP says that just after 4.pm., Miami County Sheriff Department Sergeant Nathan Freeman was going north on County Road 150 East near County Road 300 South. State Police say that as Sgt. Freeman was crossing over the intersection to catch up to a vehicle, there was a shift in the vehicle weight, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
Sgt. Freeman's patrol car spun sideways and landed in a ditch, before striking a tree. Firefighters with the Peru Fire Department assisted in extricating Sgt. Freeman from the vehicle.
Once removed, the deputy was air lifted to a Fort Wayne hopsital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
Indiana State Police say that Sgt. Freeman was wearing a seatbelt, and all airbags in the vehicle deployed.
