IU Women's Tennis sweeping victory at their opening matches

IU TENNIS CENTER (IUSTV Sports) - The spirits were high on Martin Luther King Jr Day, as the Indiana Women’s Tennis team took on both Butler and Bellarmine for their season opener. The IU women's started strong winning all of their doubles matches against Butler. Lene Hovda and Lara Schneider won their match first, winning 6-2. Quickly followed by the other doubles team Saby Nihalani and Li Hsin Lin. winning their match 6-3. As well as Nicole Teodosescu and Sarah L’Allier winning their match 6-2. The energy was high for the women’s tennis as the singles entered the court to play next. 

During the singles matches the first to finish their match was Elizabeth Dunac. Winning the match 2-0. Shortly followed by a 2-0 win from Lene Mari Hovda. IU Women’s Tennis continued showcasing their strength by winning the rest of the singles matches against Butler. A hard-fought win for the Hoosiers. Keeping the winning streak against Butler alive on their home court. Making it 16-0 wins against Butler at home since 2006.

The crowd cheered for IU until the last point and came back to cheer for them against Bellarmine at 4 pm. The second match of the day also showcased many great games. Starting the match with doubles. Court one with Lara Schneider and Lene Mari Hovda got the first win of the match in just 35 minutes winning 6-2. Soon followed by a win from Nicole Teodosescu and Sarah L’Allier winning their match 6-3.

As the match rolled on to singles Sarah L’Allier won her match 2-0. As well as Magda Swierczynska who won her match 2-0. Elisabeth Dunac who won hers by 2-0. And Nicole Teodosescu who won hers by 2-0. “I am very happy overall for the day.” Coach Ramiro Azcui remarked on the game. Saying he is excited for the win but that there are still things to work on. 

The buzz from the win was present as the match ended. The IU Women’s Tennis opener ended with a 7-0 victory against Butler and a 5-2 victory against Bellarmine. The Hoosiers look forward to their schedule in hopes of continuing their energy into their next matches next Sunday. Where they will face off against both Western Michigan at 11 am and Chicago State at 5 pm at home.
