BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The IU chapter of Beta Sigma Psi fraternity was put on cease and desist Monday for hazing, according to the Office of Student Life’s website. All activities of the organization are suspended until further notice.
The original listing was for forced consumption of substances, physical abuse, and sexual harassment.

Cease and desist is a disciplinary measure used by the university when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation. This may result in disciplinary probation, in which any violation of the conditions, or any further acts of misconduct, will result in additional disciplinary actions like suspension or expulsion from the university.
IUSTV reached out to the national office for the fraternity and received the following statement:
Beta Sigma Psi is aware of the cease and desist of our Omega chapter and expects all members to fully cooperate with investigations being conducted by Indiana University. The Fraternity is also conducting an internal investigation.
The alleged behavior stands in contrast to Beta Sigma Psi’s values and if substantiated, appropriate action will be taken.

Beta Sigma Psi joins four other IU organizations currently on cease and desist. Last week, Alpha Kappa Psi, IU's Professional Business Fraternity, was put on the list for hazing.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Kappa Alpha Psi were both put on the list in October for hazing violations. In August, Kappa Sigma was put on the list for alcohol, endangering others, and hazing violations.

Two Greek life organizations were suspended last semester by their respective national leadership. Suspension means the student organization will cease and desist all activities and disband. The length of a suspension will be proposed by the Administrative Conference Panel and will be decided by the dean of students.
IU's chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity was suspended on Nov. 27 for endangering others and hazing, and the IU chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Incorporated was suspended on Dec. 6 for dishonest conduct, hazing, and retaliation.
