Bloomington's oldest current playground to get major upgrade this spring

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The playground at Bryan Park in Bloomington will soon undergo a major reconstruction project.

The park, located on Henderson Street, is the city's oldest current playground, dating back to 1999. The original playground equipment that was installed 25 years ago is still in use, for now.

Later this month, the city will remove the equipment before a new playground is installed sometime in late April.

The new playground will feature two slides, a carousel, and a "Victory Tower" which the city says is a climbing wall. One of the biggest changes though, is a safety upgrade to the playground surface. Poured-in-place rubber surfacing, which has become the go-to at many city parks, will help improve safety, the city said in a release.

The project cost totals out to $359,770 and is paid by American Rescue Plan Act Funds.

The city hopes to have the park open sometime this spring.
