Demolition of remaining buildings at former hospital site set to begin Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A demolition project is set to begin Friday in preparation for the construction of the future Hopewell neighborhood at the site of the former IU Health Bloomington hospital.

The city says the demolition will get the future project ready, but also reduce the security risks posed by the vacant buildings. Demolition work will only occur from 7:00 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, beginning Feb. 9 and continuing for the next 16-20 weeks, or around May.

The city says the Bloomington noise ordinance will be followed throughout the demolition.

Current concrete foundations and sidewalks on the property will not be removed, only vacant buildings that are still on the plot of land.

Construction traffic to and from the site will be limited to First Street, to reduce the disruption to the neighborhood. The city does not plan to have any lane closures from the demolition project.
