25 years handed to man convicted in 2020 stabbing

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Monroe County judge has sentenced a Brownsburg man to 25 years in prison after being convicted last month of attempted murder for stabbing a woman in August of 2020.

Kiandre Owens was handed 30-year sentence with five years of the sentence suspended. He will also be on probation for five years after he is released from prison. According to online court records, Owens has credit for already spending more than three years in jail while his case moved through the courts.

In February, Owens was found guilty after a bench trial. Owens waived his right to a jury trial, which was repeatedly rescheduled in the more than three years since the stabbing.

BACKGROUND

She was rushed to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery, after talking with police. The woman was able to identify Owens as the suspect.

When police were still at the hospital, Owens had check himself in to receive treatment for a knife wound on his hand. After treatment, he was taken to the Bloomington Police Department for an interview, where he was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.
