Body of Mitchell man recovered from White River

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. — Officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources pulled the body of a Mitchell man from the White River in Lawrence County Thursday.

According to a news release, Brian Howell, 52 went missing in the river near the Lawrenceport boat ramp around 2:30 p.m. Howell was believed to be trying to retrieve gear after it was washed from his kayak while in turbulent water.

His body was found near the same area just before 9 p.m.

 An exact cause of death is pending medical examination, and the incident is still under investigation.

Lawrence County is directly south of Monroe County.
