BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Bloomington man is accused of kicking an officer in the groin during an arrest Sunday.

Donald Shaffer, 43, is charged with battery to a public safety officer with injury (a level 5 felony), resisting law enforcement (a class A misdemeanor), and disorderly conduct (a class B misdemeanor).

Court documents state that officers were called to Kinser Flat Apartments for a shouting match between Shaffer and his partner around 3:30 a.m., and officers had already dealt with the couple for similar reasons earlier in the night.

Shaffer was originally arrested for disorderly conduct.

According to court documents, Shaffer began to fight with officers as he was being put into a police car.

At one point, Shaffer began allegedly banging his head on the car window and kicking it with his foot.

Officers then took Shaffer out of the car to be put into another police car that had metal bars over the windows.

Court documents state that while Shaffer was being moved to the other car, he fought back and kicked one of the officers in his groin. Police say they immediately tackled him and held him to the ground.

According to online court records, Shaffer has three other active cases from within the last year for meth possession, theft and intimidation.

At the time of his arrest on Sunday, Shaffer was out of jail on pretrial conditions.

Court records show a judge revoked his bail and he is being held in the Monroe County Jail.
