Monroe County Dems challenge District 2 Commissioner candidate's residency

Randy-Cassady-Commissioner-Candidate

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Monroe County Democrats are challenging the candidacy of District 2 County Commissioner candidate Randy Cassady.

In the challenge filed with the Monroe County Election Board, Party Chair David Henry raised questions over Cassady's residency and asked the board to investigate if any violations occured.

Under Indiana Law, a candidate for county commissioner is required to live within the district they represent for at least six months before the general election.

Henry claims Cassady's voter registration is with an address in District 1 and that Cassady voted using this address in the 2023 and 2024 primaries.

In the challenge, Henry wrote that Cassady changed his voter registration on May 30, listing a home in District 2, which would be after the six-month deadline of May 5.

District 2 represents the Bloomington Township.

Cassady is running against incumbent Democrat Julie Thomas, who defeated Peter Iversen in the May primary.

The Monroe County Election Board meets at 1 p.m. Thursday. The last day to withdrawal from the general election ballot was June 15.
