BLOOMINGTON — The Indiana Avenue closure between Kirkwood Avenue and 6th Street will reopen to one lane of vehicle traffic and one sidewalk Aug. 29.
The closure, which started late June is for the final stretch of Clear Creek Tunnel Project.
The entire project, which will increase the size of an underground culvert where the campus river meets underneath Indiana Avenue, won't be finished until at least December, the city said.
The goal is to prevent significant flooding like what was seeing during the Kirkwood Avenue flood of 2021.
In March, the city closed part of the parking lot behind the Von Lee Building. Some of the parking has since reopened.
The City of Bloomington is in its initial stages of the Indiana Avenue Safety Improvement Project, which is focused on increasing safety, connectivity, and accessibility between Henderson Street and 10th Street, according to the project website.
