BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Bloomington Police Department has a new set of paws joining the department.

Twix, a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois, went through three months of training at Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania. His handler, Sergeant Jordan Hasler, just returned from two weeks of training with him and they are now on patrol.

He is certified in tracking, apprehension and drug detection from the National American Police Work Dog Association, and will help serve on the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

The department now has two full-time police K9s.

In November, another Bloomington Police K9, Ike, unexpectedly passed away. He was with the department from August of 2014, until his passing in 2023.
