BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington man will spend roughly the next 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to dealing fentanyl that killed another man in March 2020.
Otis Hicks, 35, pleaded guilty to dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a level 1 felony. He was also charged with carrying a handgun without a license by a convicted felon, robbery and dealing in a controlled substance, but the charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Hicks has remained in jail since November 2020. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison but received credit for already serving roughly four years in the Monroe County Jail while his case continued through the court system.
Police used Facebook messages to between Hicks and the victim which documented a drug deal between the two for methamphetamine and heroin.
The man died the next day, which an autopsy confirmed was from a fentanyl and methamphetamine overdose.
