Indiana women’s soccer got off to an early lead Thursday evening and kept the pressure on as they handled Evansville.

The Indiana Hoosiers took care of the Evansville Purple Aces winning 5-0.

The Hoosiers got off to a quick start with Layla Sirdah scoring just over four minutes into the match. Sirdah made a sweet cut to the inside of the box and buried the shot in the bottom right corner.

The offense continued to heat up for Indiana as Elle Britt scored in the 7th and the 26th minute. Her first and second goals of the year came on long shots outside the goal box.

As for the other side of the ball, the Hoosiers suffocated the Purple Aces allowing just four shots. For Indiana goalkeeper Jaime Gerstenberg, she had to make just two saves in the match.

For Evansville, maintaining possession and connecting on passes consecutively was even a struggle. Adding on, the pressure from Indiana forced the Aces into costly turnovers.

It was more of the same in the second half for the Indiana offense as they added goals from Lauren Costello and Avery Snead. Costello had a beautiful header from a corner kick in the 56th minute. Avery Snead buried a goal into a wide-open net after the Evansville goalkeeper came out of her cage in the 74th minute. Indiana on the evening had 34 shots, a season-high.

With the large cushion, Indiana was able to play 24 field players in the match. They look to continue to build off of Thursday as they take on another non-conference opponent before they start Big Ten Play.

Indiana’s next match is at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday against Lawrence University. First kick is set for 1 PM ET.
