Three-month long SR-48 closure starts Monday

BLOOMINGTON — State Road 48 over Richland Creek in Monroe County will be closed for a bridge rehabilitation project starting Sept. 16, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced this week.

INDOT says the closure is between West Vernal Pike and South Garrison Chaple Road on the west side of Bloomington, and is expected to be remain closed until at least late November.

The official detour will add roughly an extra 24 miles to the trip, taking about a half hour to complete, according to Google Maps.

INDOT says the project will cost $3.2 million. Drivers are reminded to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.
