BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Arts Commission has selected the artwork "Undulate" by artist Jon Racek for the public art installation for Hopewell Commons in the future Hopewell neighborhood.
Racek was one of four finalists who submitted art proposals in March. In June, the commission asked for public feedback on the proposals. Racek is the founder and program director of Comprehensive Design at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design.
The project has a budget of $100,000 and is funded through the city's 1% for the Arts Ordinance, which sets aside at least one percent of the city's contribution to capital projects for public art.
Installation of the artwork is scheduled for summer of 2025.
Hopewell Commons will be the first phase of the Hopewell neighborhood that is under development near the site of the old Bloomington hospital. The city says the neighborhood will be a community-oriented area with green space, outdoor recreational areas and artwork.
