BILL ARMSTRONG STADIUM — The Indiana Hoosiers returned to Bill Armstrong Stadium from their latest road trip to take on their crosstown rival, the Purdue Boilermakers, for the Golden Boot game.
The game started slow, with almost no shots on goal from both teams. In the 21st minute, sophomore midfielder Elle Britt attempted a goal with a pass from junior forward Marisa Grzesiak, but it sailed high above.
Britt continued to dominate in the first half, taking on the game's first corner kick. Britt was able to put it near the goal, and sophomore midfielder Kennedy Neighbors tried to get something from it, but it was saved by Purdue's sophomore goalkeeper Emily Edwards.
The first half ended null-null.
The second half started off explosive offensively for the Hoosiers, with a shot on goal from both freshmen forward Layla Sirdah, and Britt.
When asked about their attempts to score throughout the game sophomore defender Piper Coffield mentioned that she was proud of her team for taking "the opportunistic shot" against Purdue.
There were multiple handballs under review for penalties against Purdue however after being reviewed, they were not given.
In the 66th minute, Purdue attempted to get one in, but it was saved by senior goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg, still no shot on goal by Purdue.
The Hoosiers received a corner kick which was taken by Coffield. The Boilermakers offense was able to recover the ball taking it into their attacking third, however, Indiana’s defense took control back and regained possession of the ball, a recurring theme during this match.
More action continued into the final ten minutes, Sirdah took another shot in the 86th minute, followed by a header from graduate defender Avery Sneed also in the 86th minute, however both were unsuccessful to score.
The game ended in a draw of null-null. When asked about what he's looking to do to at Sunday's game, Coach Erwin van Bennekom simply said "score a goal."
The Indiana Hoosiers will return to Bill Armstrong on Sunday at 1PM EST to take on the Wisconsin Badgers.
