MONROE COUNTY — A firefighter was injured while putting out a large fire at a home in Monroe County Saturday night.

Fire crews with the Monroe Fire Protection District responded to Reynolds Road, north of Bloomington, around 7:30 p.m. According to MFD, when firefighters arrived, they discovered most the home except the attached garage was under a heavy fire and began a "defensive attack."

Limited water in the area made it difficult to fight the fire, and firefighters had to set up dump tanks to shuttle water back to the fire.

The homeowner was home at the time and called 911 after finding smoke upstairs. MFD said they were able to make it out of the home.

The injured firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
