BLOOMINGTON — Four people, including two IU students, were hit by a driver at the intersection of 17th Street and Eagleson Avenue Saturday night.

IU Public Safety Public Information Officer Hannah Skibba said it happened around 11:40 p.m.

Two of the people hit were Indiana University students, while the other two are not affiliated with the university. The driver, also not IU affiliated, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Skibba said alcohol or other drugs are not believed to be a factor.

All four victims were transported to IU Health Hospital for treatment. Three of the pedestrians sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the fourth is in critical but stable condition.

IUPD is urging pedestrians and drivers to be extra aware of their surroundings while navigating through campus.

IU Public Safety has a list of traffic and pedestrian tips listed on their website.

Drivers should obey posted speed limits, remember that pedestrians who are already in the crosswalk have the right of way, respect bike lanes, and refrain from passing a vehicle that is stopped at a crosswalk, according to the IUPD website.

Additionally, IUPD says that drivers should refrain from reading, writing, or sending an email or text message while driving.
