BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington woman will spend just under 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a man and injured a child in 2022.
Charity Hall was sentenced on two felony charges Wednesday: operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a Level 4 felony, and OWI causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony.
Hall was given 10 years for the level 5 felony and five years for the level 4 felony, which will be served consecutively, for a total sentence of 15 years. She has been in jail since the crash and was given 827 days of time served.
Hall will remain in prison until Feb. 2036. The remaining seven charges she faced were dismissed.
The crash happened Aug. 6, 2022 at the intersection of State Road 46 and State Road 37.
According to court documents, Hall ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck, killing 33-year-old Richard Compion and seriously injuring his 5-year-old son. When officers arrived, they reported Hall had slurred speech, poor balance and was aggressive with officers.
A blood draw would later show Hall had a blood alcohol content level of 0.184, more than double the legal limit. Court documents state Hall also tested positive for methamphetamine. Police reported Hall was aggressive with police and hospital staff, spitting on nurses, and kicked an officer in the chest.
