BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington City Council voted Wednesday to approve an amended salary increase for city council, Mayor Kerry Thomson, and City Clerk Nicole Bolden.
Councilors will make $25,000 a year, beginning next year. Thomson will make $142,171, and Bolden will make $90,000.
Under the original proposal, councilors would have earned $45,423—a 115% raise from the $21,153 councilors made previously. Thomson would have earned $151,410 and Bolden would have made $129,780.
The original proposal was put on hold after stark pushback from local residents and councilmember Isak Asare.
The ordinance passed on an 8-1 vote, with Asare dissenting.
The amended salaries will go into effect on Jan. 1 if Thomson approves the ordinance.
