BLOOMINGTON —  City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) customers can expect to see a slightly higher bill and new fees in the new year.

Starting Jan. 1, customers can expect a monthly increase of less than $2 on their bill, CBU announced in a press release. Rates vary with water use and meter size and will not affect charges for drinking water or stormwater services, CBU said.

The new rate will be reflected starting with February 2025 bills.

In addition to the rate increase, CBU customers who pay their bill using a debit or credit card will now pay a service fee of $2.50 or 3.5%, whichever is more. Card payments over the phone will also have an additional 50¢ fee.

There is no fee for paying by check, money order, or cash.

The Bloomington City Council approved the sewer rate increase in 2022 in two phases: 12% in 2023, and now 6% in 2025. CBU said the new rate will support improvements to the wastewater plants and sewer lining projects.
