BLOOMINGTON — Indiana is a football school now.

Head coach Curt Cignetti was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year after being voted by the reporters and coaches from around the Big Ten Conference.

For only the third time in program history, Indiana football has a head coach win Big Ten Coach of the Year. The previous two being Tom Allen (2020), and Bill Mallory (1986).

The award comes as a result of the Hoosiers 11-1 record after being picked to finish 17th in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. The 11 wins are an eight-game increase from Indiana’s 3-9 record in 2023, and the most wins in a single season ever.

Cignetti was voted the honors by both the media vote and the coaches vote for the 2024 season.

All B1G Teams

Six of Indiana’s players were named to the All Big Ten teams on Tuesday along with Cigentti’s Coach of the Year honors.

On offense, quarterback Kurtis Rourke earned 2nd Team All Big Ten honors after throwing for a conference best 27 touchdowns and 181.4 passer rating on the season. Two Hoosiers were named to the 3rd Team All Big Ten as center Mike Katic and receiver Elijah Sarratt rounded it out.

Sarratt’s 890 yards were 5th most in the Big Ten while he also hauled in eight touchdowns. Katic was a key reason the offensive line allowed only 18 sacks on the year, and that the team rushed for over 2000 yards on the season for a conference best 37 touchdowns on top of that.

On defense, all three of the Hoosiers were named to the 1st Team All Big Ten honors. Defensive lineman Mikail Kamara had a prolific season logging 10 sacks and 15 TFL’s, both of which ranked second in the conference. Kamara also had 60 pressures on the season, which was tied for first in the entire nation.

Joining Kamara was linebacker Aiden Fisher, and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds. Fisher not only led the team in tackles (108), but was third in the conference, while Ponds was one of the best lockdown corners in the Big Ten logging nine pass deflections and two interceptions, one of which he took to the house.

There were also 11 Hoosiers that were named to the All Big Ten Honorable Mention list. Justice Ellison (RB), Myles Price (WR), Zach Horton (TE), andCarter Smith (OL) were the offense. CJ West (DL), James Carpenter (DL), Lanell Carr Jr. (DL), Jailin Walker (LB), and Shawn Asbury II (S) were the defensive names. Mark Langston (LS), Nicolas Radicic (K), and Myles Price (RS) were the special teams honorees.
