BLOOMINGTON — Following an investigation and a year-long cease-and-desist order, the Indiana University chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. was suspended from campus, effective Nov. 15.

According to the Indiana University Office of Student Life, the fraternity was suspended for dishonest conduct, endangering others, physical abuse, and hazing.

Kappa Alpha Psi was previously under a cease-and-desist order, along with other organizations such as the Indian Student Association and Sigma Chi, but it is the first this year to be officially suspended.

Kappa Alpha Psi now joins nine other suspended campus organizations on the full suspension list. The most recent group to be suspended was Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., on Dec. 6, 2023.

The fraternity will be allowed to return to campus in fall 2027

In a statement, Indiana University spokesperson Mark Bode said in an email:

“Following an investigation into reports of hazing and a formal hearing to address these allegations, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated has been suspended from Indiana University Bloomington, effective November 15, 2024. The chapter will be eligible to return to campus during the Fall 2027 semester. Indiana University Bloomington takes all reports of hazing seriously and strives to collaborate with students and organizations in a manner that prioritizes learning, community wellness, and safety."
