MONROE COUNTY — A large fire caused heavy damage to a home near Lake Monroe early Sunday morning, according to the Monroe Fire Protection District.
MFD said it happened around 6:30 a.m. at a home on East Stewart Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found the room of the home had partially collapsed and began a defensive fire attack.
The home construction style, which has several roof lines, made it difficult to reach hidden pockets of fire.

MFD said the homeowners were home during the fire and woke up to the smell of smoke, finding the fire in the middle of the house.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. No other information was immediately available.
