BLOOMINGTON — Robert Q. Berry III has been appointed the next dean of the Indiana University Bloomington School of Education, the university announced Thursday.
Berry comes from the University of Arizona, where he is the current dean and chair in that university’s College of Education. He starts at IU on April 1.

Berry succeeds previous dean Anastasia “Stacy” Morrone, who has been in the position since July 2021.
“Robert joins the School of Education at a pivotal moment of growth and transformation,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “His leadership will be instrumental in advancing the school’s longstanding commitment to preparing skilled teachers, researchers and leaders who make a lasting impact on the education field. We are confident that the School of Education will continue to expand its influence not only in Indiana but also on the global stage, strengthening IU’s role in shaping tomorrow’s teachers.”
As dean, Berry will oversee academic and research programs and manage faculty, staff and resources.
“I look forward to collaborating with such a talented and diverse group of scholars, practitioners and students to advance the school’s goals, deepen its global connections and continue making a lasting impact on education at all levels,” Berry said in the announcement.
Berry is a member of the National Academy of Education and authored and co -edited eight books, written over 100 refereed publications and chapters, and delivered over 300 academic presentations, keynote talks and distinguished lectures globally.
Berry is a first-generation college graduate, having earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds degrees from Christopher Newport University and Old Dominion University.
