BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington Police are investigating a possible road rage shooting that was reported Sunday night on Interstate 69.

It happened just before 7 p.m. near the State Road 46 interchange, according to Bloomington Police Captain Ryan Pedigo.

The 20-year-old driver reported he had gotten onto I-69 at the Sample Road exit and as he pulled onto the interstate, a truck behind him suddenly accelerated and passed him on the right shoulder.

Pedigo says the driver described the truck as an older vehicle with rust and was possibly a Chevrolet pickup. After the truck passed, he reportedly cut in front of him, then crossed into left lane.

The driver reported the man was trying to yell something at him, before the man turned off the lights of the truck and the driver saw what he believed was a muzzle flash, Pedigo said. The driver also reported he heard a loud bang that he believes was a gunshot.

According to Pedigo, neither the driver nor his car was hit by the reported gunshot, and that police did not find any shell casings on the interstate.
