BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington woman is facing charges after police say she beat and cut a man several times with a knife while they were arguing about a dog.

Erica Kraemer, 50, is charged with battery with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a deadly weapon, both Level 5 felonies, and domestic battery, a Level 6 felony.

According to court documents, Bloomington Police met with a man who had several bruises, cuts and swelling at IU Health Bloomington Hospital on Nov. 29.

The man told officers he got the injuries while spending the night with a woman he was seeing the night before, later identified as Kraemer.

Kraemer reportedly invited the man over to have dinner for Thanksgiving and to see a new dog she had purchased and wanted to give him. Later in the night, Kraemer allegedly began smoking “spice,” and became combative when one of the dogs knocked over its bed.

The man told police he went to put it back and Kraemer got angry with him for not doing it fast enough. That’s when Kraemer allegedly began punching the man several times in the face, according to court documents.

Later in the night, Kraemer reportedly fell asleep on the couch and became combative a second time when she woke up and stepped in dog urine on the floor. The man told police Kraemer then grabbed what he called a machete and began hitting him several times with it, court documents state.

The man put his arms up to protect his face and got several cuts to his right eye, police said. Court documents state Kraemer told the man she was going to kill him.

Police later tracked down Kraemer to her apartment, where she denied beating the man, before later admitting to punching and hitting him with a knife.

According to court documents, police located the knife hidden in the couch, which reportedly matched the knife the man described.

She was arrested and held in the Monroe County Jail for several days until official charges were filed by prosecutors.

Kraemer had a bail review hearing in court Wednesday and was released on pretrial conditions, according to online court records. She is expected to be back in court on Jan. 30.

If convicted, she faces up to six years for each Level 5 felony and up to two and a half years for a Level 6 felony, according to Indiana sentencing guidelines.

Online court records show Kraemer has multiple dismissed misdemeanor cases on several types of charges including disorderly conduct and drug paraphernalia.
