UPDATE: Indiana State Police confirm Schepers was shot and killed by police after being located in Louisville. ISP did not give any other information but said the Louisville Police Department will be sharing more information.
ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police are searching for the man they say shot a sheriff’s deputy in southern Indiana and has not been found.
A statewide Blue Alert was issued early Friday morning for Austin Schepers, who police described as a 33-year-old white male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, brown hair with hazel eyes, with a tattoo of a cross under his left eye, along with multiple tattoos around his neck.

Blue Alerts are issued when a police officer is missing, seriously injured, or killed in the line of duty, and a suspect has not been arrested. There must be enough descriptive information about the suspect for the alert to be issued.
ISP said Schepers was last seen just after midnight Friday near West Baden, Indiana, which is roughly 100 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
Police initially gave a description of a car Schepers was last seen driving, although in an update, ISP said police located the car near Orangeville. Schepers, however, is still wanted.
ISP said Schepers is considered armed and dangerous.
If you see Schepers, you are asked to not approach him and instead contact the Indiana State Police Bloomington Post at 812-332-4411 or call 911.
