INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Governor Mike Braun has signed an executive order requiring state agencies eliminate DEI initiatives.

It was one of the dozens of executive orders the governor signed this week.

The order requires that no state funds or resources be used to support diversity, equity, and inclusion positions, departments, activities, procedures or programs if they grant “preferential treatment based upon one person’s particular race, color, ethnicity, or national origin, over that of another person.”

Additionally, it cannot require any person to participate in or receive any DEI training and state agencies can not require applicants be asked about DEI or give “preferential treatment” to anyone who does mention DEI.

State employees would also not be required to share their pronouns.

Braun cited the June 2023 Supreme Court Decision, Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College, which ruled that affirmative action based on race is unconstitutional.

Braun and Secretary of State Diego Morales both signed the executive order Tuesday. It went into effect immediately.
