INDIANAPOLIS — Newly-inaugurated Indiana Governor Mike Braun has issued an executive order requiring all state employees to return to work, ending remote work options.
It was one of the dozens of executive orders the governor signed this week.
Indiana’s Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 ended in March 2022. Many state employees, however, have remained working remotely.

The order directs state agencies to require employees to return to offices by July 1. Braun said the end of remote work would “strengthen collaboration, oversight and direct engagement.”
Any employees who are considered to not have satisfactory performance would not be eligible. Additionally, if an employee is given an exception, that employee must complete the work within the state.
Braun and Secretary of State Diego Morales both signed the executive order Tuesday. It went into effect immediately.
