UPDATE: Indiana State Police confirm Schepers was shot and killed by police after being located in Louisville. ISP did not give any other information but said the Louisville Police Department will be sharing more information.
ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police are sharing additional photos of the man they say is still on the run for shooting and injuring an Orange County deputy on Friday.
A Blue Alert remains in effect for 33-year-old Austin Schepers, who ISP said is 5 foot 7 inches tall, weighs approximately 150 pounds and has numerous tattoos, including his head, neck, face, arms and body.
Blue Alerts are issued when a police officer is missing, seriously injured, or killed in the line of duty, and a suspect has not been arrested. There must be enough descriptive information about the suspect for the alert to be issued.
Schepers is accused of shooting Deputy Zac Andry multiple times, including in the head, at the intersection of US150 and SR56 in Orange County.
ISP said Schepers and a female passenger in the car fled the scene. Deputy Andry was airlifted to a hopsital in Lousiville, where ISP said he remains in critical but stable condition.
The female passenger with Schepers was located near Orangeville Friday morning around 8 a.m. and was taken into custody, ISP said.
Anyone who thinks they have found Schepers is asked to avoid making contact and instead call police. He has been described as possibly armed and dangerous.
