INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University Health says a limited number of Social Security numbers were compromised by a data breach that happened between August and October of 2024.

In a statement Tuesday, IU Health says the health care system was made aware of the data leak on Nov. 8.

The company said an unauthorized had access to a team member’s email account, and during the leak, additional information like address, age, medical record number, diagnosis or other limited treatment information were vulnerable.

IU Health said people whose Social Security numbers were impacted were notified on Jan. 2 and will be offered 12-months of credit monitoring.

“We are committed to protecting personal information, and IU Health continues to implement security measures to prevent these activities from occurring in the future,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.

In December, the company said a similar data breach occurred in October. Affected customers of that data breach were informed on Dec. 17.
