Canadian police have detained a Bloomington man who fled to the country after being convicted for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the U.S. Captiol, CBC reports.
The Canada Border Services Agency says Antony Vo, 31, was arrested on a warrant under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Vo was convicted in Sept. 2023 for:
- Entering and remaining in a restricted building
- Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building
- Violent entry and disorderly conduct in a capitol building
- Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capitol building.
He was sentenced to serve nine months in federal prison in April. He appealed his conviction and sentence last May, but never appeared for prison.
Vo told the news organization he hopes president-elect Donald Trump would pardon him and other convicted rioters.
