Indiana U.S. District Attorney Zachary Myers announces resignation

INDIANAPOLIS — United States Attorney Zachary Myers, who serves in the Southern District of Indiana, has submitted his resignation to President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

He will step down Jan. 18. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Childress will serve as Acting U.S. Attorney.

Myers was nominated by President Biden in 2021 and unanimously confirmed by the senate. He was sworn in on Nov. 15 of that year, the first Black attorney to lead the federal office.

Prior to his appointment, Myers was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland starting in 2014. He was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana for three years prior.

Myers’ office prosecutes a wide array of federal cases, ranging from drug and sex traffic, violent crimes, fraud and child exploitation.
