Beta Sigma Psi place on cease and desist

Beta-Sigma-Psi

BLOOMINGTON — The IU chapter of Beta Sigma Psi fraternity was put on cease and desist Friday for alcohol violations and endangering others, according to the Office of Student Life’s website. All activities of the organization are suspended until further notice.

Cease and desist is a disciplinary measure used by the university when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation. This may result in disciplinary probation, in which any violation of the conditions, or any further acts of misconduct, will result in additional disciplinary actions like suspension or expulsion from the university.

The chapter was previously put on cease and desist last February for hazing, forced consumption of substances, physical abuse, and sexual harassment.

Beta Sigma Psi joins two other greek organizations currently on cease and desist.

Last month, the IU chapter of Sigma Delta Tau sorority was place on cease and desist for hazing allegations. Sigma Chi fraternity was added on Nov. 6 for hazing.

Eight organizations are under suspension from the university, including most recently Kappa Alpha Psi, which was suspended on Nov. 15 for dishonest conduct, endangering others, physical abuse and hazing.

This is not the first time the IU chapter of Beta Sigma Psi has faced disciplinary action from the university.

The chapter was on disciplinary probation between January and July 2024 for dishonest conduct, harassment and hazing and again between August and November 2021  for endangering others, failure to comply with university and county COVID-19 directives, and non-compliance with OSFL policies.
