IU Greek life social events put on hold until late March

David Baker Avenue

BLOOMINGTON — IU’s Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association will suspend all Greek life activities until March 24.

The IFC wrote in an email the pause will address student health and safety concerns.

“The safety of our members and guests is our utmost concern, and we will be taking appropriate action to ensure chapter compliance with updated risk management policies from both councils, as well as a detailed action plan going forward,” the email read.

The IU chapter of Beta Sigma Psi fraternity was put on cease and desist Feb. 28 for alcohol violations and endangering others.

Sigma Delta Tau sorority’s IU chapter was placed on cease and desist for hazing allegations in late January, as well as Sigma Chi fraternity in Nov. 2024.

Cease and desist is a disciplinary measure used by the university when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation. This may result in disciplinary probation, in which any violation of the conditions, or any further acts of misconduct, will result in additional disciplinary actions like suspension or expulsion from the university.

In total, eight organizations are under suspension from the university. Kappa Alpha Psi was suspended on Nov. 15, 2024, for dishonest conduct, endangering others, physical abuse and hazing. The fraternity cannot return to campus until 2027.

A full list of organizations under discipline is available on the Office of Student Life’s website.
