Three years on house arrest for former IU professor convicted of child porn possession

BLOOMINGTON — A former Indiana University professor will serve two years of monitored home detention after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.

Richard Wilk, 70, was handed a three-year sentence with one year of the sentenced being suspended. The remaining two years were transferred to house arrest.

According to court documents, the investigation began on Dec. 13, after detectives with Bloomington Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), alerting to a Dropbox account that was identified as child pornography of a person less than 12 years old.

Police contacted the Dropbox company and was given the specific account information that identified Wilk as a suspect.

According to court documents, police executed a search warrant at Wilk’s home in Bloomington, where in an interview, Wilk admitted to looking at child pornography. Wilk also reportedly told police they should be pursuing the “producers of the child pornography.”
